The world produces enough food for everyone, but not everyone has enough food. More than two million children die from malnutrition every year and millions more people are going hungry.
Over 120 organisations, churches and faith groups across the UK have come together to help change the future for millions of people.
Last week Malcolm Burgess, from Brentwood Oxfam Campaigns group, presented a special budget box with briefing notes to Karen Sheehan, Brentwood MP Eric Pickles’s Parliamentary Assistant.
‘This year’s budget can help kickstart the end for world hunger if the Chancellor confirms that from 2013 onwards, 0.7% of national income will go to life-saving aid,’ says Burgess.
‘We’re also asking Mr Osborne to make sure that his Finance Bill makes UK companies operating in poor countries spill the beans on any tax dodging. This could help them collect the money they’re owed and generate funds needed to end hunger.’
More events are planned by many of the local groups involved in the campaign and more information is available at www.enoughfoodif.org
