Stoke Newington Bookshop Staff Recommendations
Those little pieces of card, fixed to the shelves in bookshops, with nice hand-written recommen- dations from people who work there. It may be a cynical sales ploy, but it does at least throw a thread back to the time when nearly all booksellers were true enthusiasts and would actively promote to their customers books they themselves loved. Anyway, some of those who choose to work in bookshops, rather than sell designer goods at a higher salary, really do love books ¼ and are possibly even writing one themselves.
