Oxygen Books’ city-pick series offers some of the best writing on favourite World cities from Paris, Berlin and Venice to London, Amsterdam and Dublin. Each title has over fifty writers – from novelists and journalists to non-fiction writers and bloggers – offering literary gems about their city.
Now, as part of the city’s Humber Mouth Book Festival, the publisher is bringing city-pick to Hull and inviting Hull residents to let them know the best writing about their city.
Hull has an amazing number of wonderful writers from Philip Larkin and Stevie Smith to William Wilberforce and John Godber, as well as brand new writers, and Oxygen Books are keen to hear about your choices.
They’re asking Hull readers and writers to send them their selections, maximum 1,000 words per piece, although shorter pieces are very welcome, clearly naming author and title, together with sender’s own name, to: info@oxygenbooks.co.uk Closing date for submissions is 1 June 2011.
‘From new and on-line writing to the works of Hull’s most esteemed authors, whether fiction, poetry, drama or non-fiction, we’re expecting some amazing writing about all aspects of the city, past and present,’ says publisher Malcolm Burgess.
Heather Reyes and Malcolm Burgess, the city-pick publishers, together with a well-known local actor, will be bringing to life the story of Hull through its writing at the Humber Mouth Festival on Saturday 25 June 2011, 2.30 – 4.00pm at Hull Central Library, Albion Street, Hull HU1 3TF.www.oxygenbooks.co.uk
